DIY Garden Rooms: How Long Do They Take to Build?
In recent years, the concept of DIY garden rooms has surged in popularity. These bespoke outdoor spaces not only add aesthetic appeal to your garden but also provide functional space for home offices, gyms, studios and anything else you can think of!
One of the most common questions surrounding this project is: “How long does it take to build a DIY garden room?”. So we wanted to give you some insight into the timeline of constructing as well as provide tips to streamline the process.
You could have your dream Garden Room in as little as 4 weeks! Here’s how….
Understanding the Basics of DIY Garden Rooms
Before diving into the construction timeline, it’s crucial to understand what a DIY garden room entails. Essentially, it’s a self-constructed standalone structure. Unlike traditional home extensions, these rooms are less intrusive and often do not require planning permission, making them a quicker solution than a traditional home extension.
What Can Impact the Construction Time?
Several factors can affect the time it takes to build a DIY garden room. Being aware of these can help you better plan and manage your project timeline.
- Your Supplier: Every supplier includes different things within their timeline ensure you check what is included (electricals, windows etc…). Each supplier also has a different manufacturing process making some garden rooms more complex to put together. Pent Haus for example is designed and manufactured in a way that makes it easy to construct.
- Design Complexity: Simpler designs with minimal features will naturally take less time to construct. Main factors that impact this are the number of windows, doors, or intricate architectural details.
- Size of the Structure: The larger the garden room, the longer the construction will take. This is due to the increased materials, foundation work, and detailing involved.
- DIY Skill Level: Beginners might take longer due to the learning curve – but don’t worry, none of our Garden Rooms require specialist skills – anyone can do it!
- Weather Conditions: Outdoor construction projects are at the mercy of weather conditions. Plan your build for clear days without rain, or extreme heat to ensure you can work effectively. You can still build our Garden Rooms in the rain – but we recommend more cups of tea, and some waterproofs!
- Assistance: Having friends or family members help can speed up the build. We recommend 1-2 people to help build our Garden Rooms.
