Meet the Makers: A Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Our Mid-Wales Factory
There’s a specific sound that defines the Pent Haus workshop in Mid-Wales: the rhythmic hum of a CNC machine precision-cutting a structural insulated panel (SIP), followed by the quiet, focused scratch of a carpenter’s pencil.
While many garden room companies are simply “middlemen” shipping in flat-packs from overseas, we do things differently. We build your Pent Haus right here in the heart of Wales. Today, we’re taking you off the showroom floor and into the sawdust to meet the people making it happen.
Precision Meets Pine: The CNC Revolution
“People often ask why our kits fit together so quickly,” says Kacper, our Production Lead. “The secret is in the millimetre.”
In our factory, every SIP panel and ToughWood board is cut using state-of-the-art CNC technology. This isn’t just about speed; it’s about eliminating the human error that leads to draughty corners or sticking doors. When a customer receives their delivery, they aren’t just getting wood—they’re getting an engineered puzzle where every piece is guaranteed to align.
Why do we insist on a 1mm tolerance? Because a garden room that fits perfectly on Day 1 is guaranteed to stay weatherproof for 10 years. Precision in our factory means no draughts in your office.
The “Secret Sauce” in the SIPs
Our workshop team takes particular pride in the bonding process. Unlike cheaper alternatives that use basic adhesives, our panels are high-pressure bonded to ensure they never delaminate.
“I’ve seen traditional timber rooms warp after one wet Welsh winter,” notes Aleks, our operations lead. “But when I see a Pent Haus leave this factory, I know that the structural integrity is locked in. It’s built to handle the British climate, period.”

Sustainability: More Than a Buzzword
In Mid-Wales, we live and work surrounded by nature, so keeping our footprint small isn’t just a policy—it’s a lifestyle.
We’ve optimised our cutting patterns to ensure we have less than 3% timber waste.
What do we do with the off-cuts? We don’t send them to a landfill. Our team sorts the timber waste to be used as carbon-neutral biofuel, helping heat local spaces during the winter months. When you buy a Pent Haus, you’re supporting a circular economy that starts in the Welsh hills.
Our ToughWood cladding isn’t just low-maintenance; it’s PEFC certified & PVC free. By choosing materials that don’t require chemical staining every year, you’re preventing harmful runoff into your garden’s soil.

A Day in the Life at Our Mid-Wales Factory
To give you a better look at how your garden room comes to life, we’re taking you through a typical day on the factory floor—from the first cup of tea to the final package being strapped down for delivery.
08:00 AM – The Morning Briefing & Material Check
The day starts at the “Build Board.” Aleks, our Purchasing & Operations lead, reviews the day’s custom orders. Because every Pent Haus is customised by the customer, no two days are the same.
For our production team, the first task is preparation.
“Starting early is essential,” says Aleks. “We have a team meeting to review the day’s plan, discuss goals, identify priority custom orders, and any changes in plans or procedures and ensure all preparations are in place.”
Safety is our foundation; before a single machine hums to life, the team is geared up in PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). In our factory, safety and quality are inseparable.
The “Millimetre-Perfect” Cut
Our team then commences operating machinery, assembling, and preparing garden rooms orders and performing quality checks.
The factory splits into its two specialist zones. The first is Machinery. This is where the “bones” of your Pent Haus are born.
Timber Cut to Size: We source high-grade FSC certified timber, which is immediately processed to the exact dimensions required for your specific build.
The CNC Cut: Our joists and panels are processed using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) technology.
“People ask why our kits fit like Lego,” says our CNC operator Dariusz. “It’s because the machine doesn’t have ‘off days.’ Every interlocking joint is engineered to a fraction of a millimetre, ensuring your build is airtight and structural.”

The Cladding & “ToughWood” Treatment
After lunch, the focus shifts to the exterior which is pressed and bonded together to the garden room walls. This is where the ToughWood cladding is prepared, cut and painted.
The team hand-selects the boards to ensure the grain looks uniform. “It’s the most visual part of the build,” says Aleks. “We want the customer to see their garden room and be hit by the quality of the cladding immediately.”
Following order specifications the team set to work on painting the ToughWood cladding to the customers colour choice and place the boards in our drying area.

Quality checks & Waste Management
As the day winds down, our Quality Check protocol begins. Before any Pent Haus leaves our Mid-Wales gates, it undergoes a final, multi-point quality check to ensure a “zero-defect” arrival. We manually verify dimensional accuracy, inspect the thermal bonding of every SIP panel, and hand-check the ToughWood cladding for grain consistency & paint coverage. Finally, we perform a weighted inventory of all components and seals before safely and securely packing the components securely into their delivery trailer. It’s a rigorous process designed to ensure that when your trailer arrives, every piece is seasoned for the UK climate and ready to click perfectly into place.
Ready for the Road
By evening, a complete, insulated, and weatherproof Pent Haus is packed and ready to ship. It’s a long day, but there’s a massive sense of pride in knowing that in just a few days, this delivery will become someone’s new home office, gym, or sanctuary.

Problem-Solving in Real-Time
No factory is a vacuum. A typical day involves constant problem-solving & learning. Whether it’s adapting to a new process or production demand or addressing a machine breakdown, our team thrives on the challenge.
“Our routine varies depending on the day’s hurdles,” notes the production team. “But that’s where the expertise shows—addressing a deadline or a technical change without letting a single delivery date slip.”
The final push
Before the lights go out, the workshop is swept, and timber off-cuts are sorted for our Zero-Waste biofuel program. When that truck leaves our Mid-Wales gates, it carries the hard work, safety-first mindset, and Welsh pride of the people who built it.
